at GeorgetownBegin 2027 with intention as we gather to create our own meditation malas, explore the practice of Japa meditation, and set the tone for the year ahead.
A new year invites new beginnings, but meaningful change doesn't always mean doing more. Sometimes it begins with slowing down, reconnecting with ourselves, and creating space for what matters most.
In this hands-on workshop, you'll create your own pocket-sized meditation mala, a smaller version of the traditional 108-bead mala. We'll explore the history of Japa meditation, the symbolism of 108, and how repetition, breath, and mantra can support focus, awareness, and a deeper connection to ourselves.
We'll close our time together with a guided Japa meditation, using our newly created malas to experience the rhythm of repetition and intention. It's a simple, meaningful practice you can return to throughout the year, whenever you need a moment to reconnect.
What to expect:
No experience necessary. All materials provided.
This is a relaxed, self-paced creative experience. We'll spend approximately 2.5 hours together, including our guided meditation, with an additional 30 minutes available for anyone who would like extra time or assistance finishing their mala. Those who finish early are welcome to enjoy quiet reflection or explore their meditation practice while others create.
You'll leave with a handmade mala, an understanding of how to use it, and a simple meditation practice to carry into the new year.
One bead. One breath. One moment. An invitation to begin again.
Joined us last year? We'd love to welcome you back! This year's gathering offers a fresh opportunity to create, reconnect, and deepen your meditation practice. We'll be making a different style of mala, exploring new intentions, and sharing the experience of Japa meditation together. Whether this is your first mala or your fifth, there's always something new to discover in the practice.
