How to choose a yoga class style

Picking the right yoga style comes down to three questions: how much energy do you have today, what do you want your body to feel like after class, and how much experience do you bring in. Flow is built so you never have to commit to a single style — every membership includes every class at every location.

  • New to yoga? Start with Beginner, Hatha, or Chill classes.
  • Want a workout? Try Vinyasa, Flow, or Hot Yoga.
  • Stressed or sore? Yin and Restorative are built for deep release.
  • Looking for something spiritual? Kundalini brings breathwork, mantra, and meditation.
  • Older student or recovering? Our Senior classes move gently with balance and mobility in mind.

Not sure? Come in for your first class free with our intro offer and ask any teacher — we love pointing new students toward the style that fits them best.

Yoga class styles — frequently asked questions

Start with a Beginner, Hatha, or Chill class. These move at a slower pace, break down the poses, and give you time to find proper alignment before layering on more advanced sequences. Most Flow locations run dedicated beginner-friendly classes every week.

Both link breath with movement. Vinyasa is the broader tradition — a structured sequence of postures tied to the breath. Our Flow classes are a Vinyasa-style practice with creative sequencing, music, and a steady pace that works for most experience levels.

Hot Yoga can be safe for new students, but we recommend starting with a Beginner or Hatha class first so you are comfortable with the fundamental poses. When you try Hot Yoga, hydrate well before, bring a towel, and listen to your body — rest in child's pose anytime.

Higher-intensity styles like Hot Yoga and faster Vinyasa flows tend to burn more calories because they combine continuous movement with heat and resistance. That said, consistency across any style matters more for long-term health than chasing a single calorie count.

Yin Yoga involves long, passive holds — typically three to five minutes per pose — that target connective tissue and fascia rather than muscle. It is slow, meditative, and complements more active styles by improving deep flexibility and calming the nervous system.

Absolutely. A single membership gives you access to every style at every Flow location. Most students rotate through several styles each week — a high-intensity Vinyasa one day, a Restorative or Yin class the next.
