What to expect

The intention of these classes is to provide a container of healing by supporting the body with the use of postures and props designed to facilitate the release of mind-body tension and bring the central nervous system to a state of balance and recovery.

Restorative yoga, also known as gentle yoga, is a type of yoga that aims to relax, revive, and refresh the body, mind, and spirit. It is a branch of hatha yoga, an ancient Indian practice that focuses on stretching and strengthening the physical body to prepare for sitting meditation.

During a restorative yoga session, you will experience slow and gentle movements, extended poses held with the help of props such as blankets and blocks, and an overall atmosphere of tranquility and ease. The poses can be held for a duration of two to twenty minutes. While restorative yoga may be similar to yin yoga, the two practices have differences. Yin yoga is intended to stretch deep layers of the body through long-held poses that apply a deliberate amount of stress while restorative focuses more on relaxing and supporting.

In this class we will work on different muscle groups and joints each week, using Functional movements, CARs (Controlled Articular Rotations), Kinstretch techniques as well as Myofascial release to improve range of motion and flexibility. Props such as straps, bolsters, blocks, and tennis balls will be used to target specific areas and help ease your body into the poses and stretches. Modifications and options will be offered throughout the class.

In this sacred gathering, we’ll sip traditionally prepared cacao to calm our minds and open our hearts, creating clarity in our lives. Following this heart-opening ritual, we’ll embark on a drum journey awakening our spirits, and then reenergize with a soothing sound journey featuring gong, didgeridoo, multiple flutes, chimes & more . The atmosphere will be enriched with sacred smoke, candles, drums, and rattles, cleansing and energizing our circle. Together, we’ll engage in journaling, community sharing, and healing. In honoring Mayan traditions, we are proud to source our cacao from indigenous communities in the Cahabón region of Guatemala. Come and energize your best self while deepening your connection to yourself and others!
