What to expect

Have you always been curious? Need a release from some anxiety? Your roommate dragged you here? Whatever the reason is that you’re checking out yoga for the first time - we are so glad you decided to start!

From influencers to Kundalinis, yoga can be intimidating. We know. But, don’t be nervous! Yoga is for everyone, and each yogi started exactly where you are now. Everyone’s journey with yoga is unique, and we’re honored to help show you the way.

So, shall we?

Firstly, I want to mention that you are a “beginner” simply because you’re in the beginning stages of your yoga practice. The most experienced yogis can be inflexible, fall out of poses, hit child’s pose every other breathe, get stuck in their minds… What makes a yogi “experienced” is the sheer, continued practice and their consistency to simply show up.

Each class varies, depending on your instructor, but in a standard yoga class, you can expect:

  • Opening with gentle words - a chance to separate yourself from the outside world, all of it’s responsibilities, and set an intention for your practice
  • Transitioning into a slow, guided warm-up to awaken your body and mind, easing into your practice
  • Next, you’ll be guided through sun salutations - a standard sequence that builds a little more fire
  • Then, your instructor will guide you through a sequence of poses, reflecting the parts of the body and mind you warmed up a the beginning of class
  • Lastly, the cool down. The final pose you take will be savasana, or “resting corpse”. Laying on your back, it is an opportunity to embrace the work you put into your practice, thank your body for showing up and hey, if you want to do some savasana-daydreaming, be our guest.

Some key notes to remember in your yoga practice:

Please don’t be intimidated by fancy poses or the sanscript language - your instructor will guide you through every detail of each pose and ensure you’re on the right track.

Listen to your body! There is no way a pose “should look”, so don’t overexert yourself, especially if you are working with an injury, recovery or any soreness in general.

Props are for pros! You are welcome to use blocks, bolsters, blankets… whatever you need in class. Your practice is your own.

Child’s pose is one of the most sacred, beloved poses, and it is welcome to you at any point in your practice.

To experience the benefits of yoga, we encourage you to get into a rhythm - maybe 2-3 times a week - and build upon your practice.

Bring your mat, some water, maybe a friend, and have fun!

Whether you’re starting out for physical gain, mental release or simply wanting to try something new, we can’t wait to have you in class.

I was recently looking for a studio to restart my yoga practice and checked out Flow Yoga. Everything about the studio has been wonderful. All of the instructors have been so welcoming, the students in class have been friendly and inviting as well. Any questions I've had have been answered quickly and by a real person. They have made my transition into the studio seamless. The studio itself is always clean and has plenty of props, mats to borrow, towels, cleaners and all the little extras (hair ties, feminine products, etc) that you could need. I've absolutely loved becoming a part of the Flow Yoga community.

I love the Hatha and Kundalini classes at Flow Yoga. The teachers so seamlessly combine so many things I love into an hour—yoga, sound, meditation, teachings, mantras, chanting—I'm amazed how they do it seemingly so effortlessly and flow so well together into an experience that's nourishing, rejuvenating, and esp the teachings, they always seem to come at the right time to help me start my day on a great note.

I have typically worked out with heavy weights or in boot camp style classes but visited Flow after realizing that I needed a change. I was welcomed by everyone and made to feel totally comfortable and at ease even not being someone with any real yoga experience. The staff, volunteers, and even other members are all incredible and I always leave feeling better than when I walked in.

As a 50-year-old guy, I wasn’t sure a local yoga studio was going to be the right fit for me — especially after a total left knee replacement two years ago and a long, frustrating recovery that included two additional procedures for scar tissue. My range of motion has been limited for years, with pain at the edges of movement. I put off trying yoga for a long time. Over the past two months, practicing yoga here has genuinely helped. My knee mobility has improved, my hips feel looser, and even my lower back pain — still a work in progress — is better than it’s been in years. My overall energy and flexibility have noticeably increased. If you’re looking for yoga for beginners, yoga after knee replacement, or just a welcoming yoga studio that meets you where you are, this is it. The instructors are knowledgeable, encouraging, and respectful of physical limitations. The community is just as supportive. No pressure, no judgment — just people working on their own practice. I’m glad I finally gave it a shot. I’ll be sticking with it.

FlowYoga has been a breath of fresh air in the fitness world! I have been searching for a studio that offers laid-back, targeted, and mindful stretching without the intensity of your typical HIIT or Pilates class. Every class is guided by wonderful instructors, and has been a welcomed addition to my typical workout routine. I’ve participated in a majority of the classes they offer- from the Hatha all the way to the hot Vinyasa class. You really get moving during the hot Vinyasa class since it’s more “intense” and can get relatively fast, but is perfectly manageable with how they pace it slow to begin, and once you’ve become familiar with the movements then start to speed it up. Everything in between is well-paced, and offers plenty of variation even within the same class! Another testament to the instructors keeping things fresh while also being effective. There’s little pressure in any of the classes to “perform” well, and the rooms are inexplicably relaxing which helps you lean into the mindfulness they conjure. The instructors are sure to assist if needed to help you maximize the time spent in the studio, and all friendly and welcoming. Glad to have come across this studio on a whim, and look forward to spending as much time as I can with them!

What do you say about a place that gives you more than you ever expected? Flow Yoga offers it all—strength through movement, grounding through breathwork and meditation, and a community of people who are all seeking the same things: rest, relaxation, realignment, and renewal. Flow Yoga truly delivers. The staff, volunteers, instructors, facilities, and class variety are exceptional. From Carolina’s Mobility class to Sarah’s Hot Vinyasa to Yin with Nina K, each session challenged me in new ways and strengthened both my mind and body far beyond what I anticipated. I’m genuinely grateful for every experience and every person who makes this space what it is. The best way I can express my appreciation is by encouraging you to experience Flow Yoga for yourself—today or sometime this week. I’m confident you won’t be disappointed. And if stepping into the studio doesn’t feel right just yet, come try the free Yoga in the Park on Saturdays at 10 a.m. at the Cedar Park Public Library. Take a chance on yourself, and take a chance on all that Flow Yoga has to offer. After all… what’s the best that can happen?
