“A moving meditation”

When you hear the term “yoga flow”, or “a flow”, the type of yoga probably being referenced is Vinyasa. A Vinyasa flow is a strung together series of posture + breathe, moved through in a rhythmic flow. With a variety of poses and transitions available, nearly no two classes are alike.

A bystander with no background knowledge may look upon a vinyasa yoga class and think it is all free-flowing movement with no sequence or series, and, well, that’s the fun of it!

The derivative of the word Vinyasa:* “nyasa” means “to place”* “vi” means “in a special way”

There is consciousness and purpose to each pose, position, transition, breathe. Vinyasa is a playground - we can run around freely, feel wind in our bodies and fire in our souls, in a controlled environment, set by sequence.

While no two vinyasa yoga classes are alike, there are commonalities that streamline through each of them:

In a Vinyasa yoga class, you engage your Ujjayi Breathe. This is the act of inhaling deeply and exhaling thoroughly, all through your nose. This generates a feeling of relaxation, giving intention to each and every inhale..… and exhale.

Ujjayi Breath also helps build heat in your body during the practice, which coincides with another factor of the Vinyasa flow - it can be a bit of a cardio workout. The Sun Salutations, along with Chaturanga Dandasana, add some aerobatics to the vinyasa flow, and this is where you typically work up a sweat.

Sun Salutations - the standard warm up of a Vinyasa yoga class; a set series of movement that, physically, bring you up into a mountain pose and down, again, onto your belly, within the course of a few breathes. There are two components - Sun A and Sun B - and, typically, you move through each set three times.

Chaturanga Dandasana - this is the key transition that ends / begins each section of the series. It engages the core, arm muscles, back muscles…. well, let’s just say it engages the entire body.

Limited breathing? Cardio workout?? Excuse me, what?

No worries - like every practice of yoga, a sacred child’s pose is always available to you. And, your instructor will guide you through each piece of the practice, advising ways you can alter or adjust to fit the flow into the practice your body needs.

And, again, no two classes are alike - your instructor will take the standard blueprint and make it their own, based on their own teachings, experience, intention and general individuality.

A Vinyasa flow is a great way to engage strength, sweat, body and mind. It provides joy and peace, all in one. A moving meditation.

So, what are you waiting for? Let’s play.

I am relatively new to yoga practice but have attended several classes here over the past couple of weeks. The Kundalini is incredible as have been the other classes I've tried. The instructors are amazing with instruction and modifications and patient with newcomers. I'll move on to more advanced classes as I progress, but thus far it's been a 5-star experience.

Fantastic studio! The staff is so friendly and very talented. I’ve tried a variety of classes and instructors and there really is something for everyone at all levels. Their various events are also always great. The sense of community they have built is so cozy and warm. And don’t skip out on the free tea they have! It’s always delicious. If you’re a beginner I would recommend trying one of the Flow and Chill classes with Winnie it’s a very relaxing and low intensity introduction into practicing yoga! The Flexibility & Mobility classes with Carolina always leave me feeling fantastic as well.

Everything about this studio / Flow Yoga is amazing. The teachers, classes, the teaching and allowing flexibility during lessons to try out things based on intensity levels is great. We started with the 30-day program offer and it was great to experience different teachers and their unique yoga teaching styles. Studio is very clean, inviting and they have yoga mats and other supporting gear to use. I would highly recommend this place, both me and my wife love this place! We also introduced another friend of ours here and it has been great!

I am loving this studio in Cedar Park. Joined via the 30 day special and have taken a variety of classes over the last 2 weeks. Each has been great and offers something a little different. The instructors are all very friendly and talented. The studio is very clean and inviting including several bathrooms, changing room and shower if needed! I also love the yogi tea available after class! My only wish is for a few earlier classes during the week before work.

The photo probably doesn’t say much, but it conveys my sense of relaxation and joy since coming to the Flow Studio. I joined because I wanted to give myself an opportunity for better mental health and to help with my anxiety and stress. It didn’t hurt to know I’ll get some good flexibility added into the mix. It’s been a few weeks and I’m really enjoying my time spent in the studio. It has such a cozy and calm atmosphere and everything you would need. From mats, straps, blankets, water, a calm sitting lounge. It’s easy to sign up for classes via my phone and make adjustments to my own schedule. There’s such a good sense of community and help. I’m definitely going to keep coming and I can’t wait to see how I’ll be a year from now with yoga in my life.

Flow Yoga in Cedar Park is a great studio with lots of varied classes and styles of yoga. I signed up using their introductory offer of 30 days for $30 and it has allowed me to try multiple different classes. It has been easy for me to find a class to attend almost any day of the week because they offer classes at lots of different times throughout the day. The teachers are very knowledgeable and welcoming, and respectful of people's differing skill levels. Such a great studio and community!
